  9.      prf - operating system profiler

  12.      The special file /_d_e_v/_p_r_f provides access to activity information in the
  13.      operating system.  Writing the file loads the measurement facility with
  14.      text addresses to be monitored.  Reading the file returns these addresses
  15.      and a set of counters indicative of activity between adjacent text
  16.      addresses.

  18.      The recording mechanism is driven by a separate profiling clock.  The
  19.      profiling clock period is set so that it does not become synchronized
  20.      with the regular system clock.  Samples that catch the operating system
  21.      are matched against the stored text addresses and increment corresponding
  22.      counters for later processing.
